Is Google afraid of certain social networks?

google waveWelcome to the world of Google Wave.

What is this service you ask? The hope here is to "combine conversation-type communication and collaboration-type communication," said Lars Rasmussen, who launched the project with his brother Jens after Google acquired their mapping start-up in 2004.

In a nutshell it is a little bit Twitter, a little bit Friendfeed, and a little bit Facebook all wrapped up in one nice package. Gee, is Google afraid of certain social networks? Probably not but still... it will allow users to send direct messages to online contacts with real-time replies, share photos or documents, and add or delete members of the conversation as needed.

Pretty cool little service me thinks.

Can't wait to try this out.
